Light attack aircraft ·First flight 1954 · In service 1956
The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk was Ed Heinemann's masterpiece of minimalism — a light, cheap and delightfully agile carrier attack jet so compact its delta wing never needed to fold.
Nicknamed "Heinemann's Hot Rod" and "Scooter," it served for decades in attack, training and aggressor roles and remained a favourite of the pilots lucky enough to fly it.
