Attack helicopter ·First flight 1975 · In service 1986
The Boeing AH-64 Apache is the world's most recognisable attack helicopter, a heavily armoured tank-hunter carrying Hellfire missiles, Hydra rockets and a slaved 30 mm chain gun that follows the gunner's helmet sight.
The Longbow variant adds a mast-mounted millimetre-wave radar that can pick out, prioritise and engage dozens of targets in seconds, even from behind cover.
