The Boeing 747 — the original Jumbo Jet — changed air travel forever, its unmistakable upper-deck hump becoming the most recognisable silhouette in aviation.
By carrying far more passengers per flight than anything before it, the 747 slashed the cost of long-haul travel and opened the world's cities to ordinary travellers for half a century.
